Nuts are a fruit tree that improves environmental conditions. In the areas where it is cultivated, it helps create a fresh and vital environment. The roots avoid the soil erosion and they also serve to keep moisture on the soil, especially in regions knows for their dry summer. All walnut parts provide good quality wood, they are known for their nutritional and medical value, etc.
The nuts in Albania are cultivated in a spontaneous and wild environment. In wild conditions, the nut grows on the hillsides and mountains, in the rocky parts, as well as in streams and river banks. It is also located in small forest, on the shores of rivers and streams with underground water.
We can distinguish three main groups of nuts that grow in Albania which are: cultivated nuts; domestic or wildnuts and spontaneous nuts.
According to statistics, nuts are spread all over Albania, but the main cities known for their cultivation are: Dibra, Gjirokastra, Librazhd, Tropoja, Berat, Permet, Kukes, Skrapar, Saranda, Pogradec, etc.
